JKS Benelux Chief instructor
Eric Bortels (7th Dan, born 1966) has been practicing karate for over 40 years, demonstrating lifelong dedication to the art and its values. In 1996, he founded his own karate dojo, laying the foundation for a strong and steadily growing organization.
In 2010, Eric was introduced to the Japan Karate Shotorenmei (JKS). Recognizing the technical depth and philosophy of JKS, he and his Belgian group officially joined the organization in 2011. In 2014, following the unification of JKS Belgium and JKS Netherlands, Eric was appointed as the person responsible for JKS Benelux, further strengthening international cooperation within the region.
Beyond his regular karate activities, Eric plays a leading role in the I-karate movement. Since 2007, he has been actively teaching karate to people with disabilities. Through years of experience, he developed a structured and inclusive training system designed to empower and activate individuals with diverse physical and mental challenges. His work reflects a deep commitment to accessibility, personal development, and the true spirit of karate for all.
